Donating Securities

A contribution to Talmadge Hill of long-term appreciated securities — i.e. stocks, bonds and/or mutual funds that have realized significant appreciation over time — is one of the most tax-efficient ways to give.   1 Donors of these securities are able to enjoy two important advantages:

  1. Any long-term appreciated securities with unrealized gains (meaning they were purchased over a year ago, and have a current value greater than their original cost) may be donated to Talmadge Hill and a tax deduction taken for the full fair market value of the securities — up to 30% of the donor’s adjusted gross income. Securities donated will be sold subsequently by Talmadge Hill.
  2. Since the securities are donated by you rather than sold, capital gains taxes from selling the securities no longer apply. The more appreciation the securities have, the greater the tax savings will be for you.

If you have questions about donating securities, please speak to Bill Durkin, Head of Development.  If you are ready to make a donation, please contact Loretta Price at C.J. Lawrence, LLC,  Talmadge Hill’s investment advisor.  Loretta can be reached at 212-888-6197 or lprice@cjlawrence.com.  Donors will need to provide the following transfer information to their broker:

DTC #0226
C.J. Lawrence LLC
For the Account of Talmadge Hill Community Church
A/C #657-576882

But please notify Loretta in advance so we know to look and secure your gift.

1 Please consult with your own financial and tax advisor to determine the tax consequences of donating securities.  Talmadge Hill does not provide tax or financial advice and the statements made are illustrative.

Thank you!
